The Cape May Mermaid Guild’s First King Neptune Bachelor Action raised just over $20,000 to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey Southern Branch—doubling their fundraising goal.
“We know that these are difficult financial times for many in our area and we wanted to do something to help others, “said Mermaid Guild’s Pat Johnson. “We knew people would love this event, but the support even exceeded our expectations.”
“I have never seen so many people have so much fun while truly making a difference for those in need,” said Margie Barham, executive director of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s Southern Branch. “This is one caring group whose efforts have a direct result on the wellbeing of those in our area who struggle to feed their families.”
More than twenty bachelors strutted their stuff with dates that included art, tennis, cooking, and yoga lessons, room painting, a Phillies Game, personal training session as well has dinner, theater or kayaking at sunset. One gentleman farmer took high bids for an opportunity to pick fresh veggies on this farm to later enjoy at a picnic. The highest bid of $1,400 went for the Copper Fish’s Chef Geoff Johnson cooking demo and dinner for 15 ladies. No date for this one though, the Chef is married.
Look out for next year’s event. The Cape May Mermaid Guild is already making plans to grow this benefit as an annual fundraiser for the Southern Branch of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
